6. Scandia_Internet_SurveyScandia Internet Service Survey
A group of your neighbors in Scandia formed a Internet Focus group with the Economic
Development Authority to explore services in our community. We'd like to learn more about your
thoughts.
We know that some of us aren't able to access the Internet at all while many others can only do
so at very slow connection speeds (Less than 3 Mbps). We also know there are concerns about
the quality of service from the current Internet Service Providers (ISP) that serve Scandia.
Why is high speed Internet important for Scandia:
• Environmentally friendly way to work and shop.
• Secure and convenient access to banking and bill paying.
• Instant access to expert knowledge and advice, education and learning.
• Able to "cut the cord" on cable tv, satellite tv, landline phone and home security systems.
• Able to do medical visits and health monitoring (TeleHealth).
• Access to smart homes and using Alexa, Google or other devices.
• Increased home values

General Questions
Since serving the entire Scandia community seems to be unprofitable and unlikely for the
current hard wired ISP's (Midco, Frontier) which of the following options is most attractive to
you?
1. Let the market prevail, realizing that some residents will never have hard wired service.
2. Subsidize the current ISP's via taxes and seek government grants in order to implement
service to most in the community without control over quality or speeds.
3. Form a city owned utility or co-op with a mandate to provide upgraded service to all in
the community. (This would likely also have a taxpayer impact.)
If the City had to raise taxes to provide reliable, high speed internet to everyone in Scandia, how
much of a tax increase would you consider reasonable?
$0... I don't support a tax increase
$10 per month
$25 per month
$50 per month
$100 per month
