5.b Staff Report-PW
Staff Report
Date of Meeting: 7/6/2023
For: PRC
From: Charles Fischer – Director of Public Works
Subject: Staff Report
Lilleskogen Park
Staff have installed the Little Library; it is located along the sidewalk and close to the ADA
pedestrian ramp from the parking lot. This location will allow wheel chair accessibility.
Playground Project:
Public Works has confirmed with the playground installer that the date set to begin installation will be
July 16th. This process begins with the installation of the structures and followed by the installation of
the rubber surface. After the rubber surface has cured the engineered wood fiber mulch will be blown
into the remaining area of the playground. Upon completion of the work internal to the curb of the
playground, Public Works will begin the finish grading, turf restoration, bench and table installation. At
this time a specific date for full completion is difficult to predict as each portion of the project must be in
sequence and separate installers are completing each portion. Weather and other interruption will also
play a factor it the completion date.
Planning for an opening ceremony August 30th will be the earliest I would recommend before the school
year begins.
Liten Park:
The trail access to Liten Park is complete and the Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails have been notified
that the trail will be staked before mowing. Public Works will wait to mow the trail until they have had
sufficient time to report to me if any sensitive plants would be impacted by the initial mowing. The park
sign is finishing up in the development stages and below is a rendition of the design. 29”x47.75”
Hay Lake Park:
Hay Lake Park will also have a new sign installed this year. Below is a rendition of the design for
Hay Lake Park. 38”x92”

Notable Maintenance:
Landscape maintenance has become high priority through the dry season we are experiencing.
Mowing is still taking place but at a minimal scale. Both of our seasonal staff members have
been working diligently on the landscape beds. Staff have completed trimming plants, removing
weeds and mulching the beds at the Community Center, Warming House, Lilleskogen, Wayne
Erickson, the two beds south of the intersection of HWY 97 and Olinda. Tree trimming has been
filtered in when full-time staff have had time between other projects.
