Flexibility. Motion carried unanimously.
Approve the Minutes – Larsen moved, Porubcansky seconded, to approve the May 23, 2023
minutes. Motion carried unanimously.
Review Tourism Vision and Mission Statement – Tabled by Dickens for a future meeting when
Maefsky is in attendance. Porubcansky requested the concept of branding and advertising would be
added or included in the future discussion.
Best of Scandia – Dickens reported that the organizing group met, updated information will be
delivered to staff soon after it is verified that there will be a free will donation gift wrapping station
again, and if so, what organization will benefit from those donations. As the 2023 Fee Schedule
does not include $25 event registration for Best of Scandia, staff will take steps necessary to seek
Council’s approval prior to the September vendor registration.
City Wide Garage Sale – Dickens provided staff written feedback report which was added late to
the meeting packet. Discussion concluded in regard to the map, include addresses only and omit
names, plan for a print version, encourage more sale hosts to register (obviously more sales were
available than on the map which anecdotally hurt both shoppers and sellers,) and add a field to the
registration for individual sellers to list their sale hours. Other notes: consider paid notices early in
the year for sellers and in late May for shoppers, notice event in Out & About publication,
communicate with Public Works for signs to be installed one or two weeks prior to the May 20-June
1st 2024 sale, and publicize the Community Wide Garage sale as “1st Weekend After Memorial Day”
to clarify when the Thursday sale date is in the month of May.
Scandia Business Breakfasts – Morell reported the next EDA meeting by City Council will be in
January of 2024. Business Breakfasts discussion will be tabled until EDA meets.
Advisory Committee Training – Dickens confirmed each committee member received notice to
attend one of the two required training sessions with City Attorney, Eric Larson, or cover the
material in one of the recorded meetings. One training session is at 6 p.m. today, and the other at 6
p.m. on Wednesday, July 12th.
Upcoming Events – Dickens reported that Best of Scandia and Scandia Evening Adventures are
being organized. Porubcansky inquired if Scandia would consider an End of Winter bonfire event
as practiced in Sweden. Dickens will contact her Tourism counterpart in Sister City Mellerud for
further information to be considered in the future. Stignani suggested keeping Fire Chief Hinz in
