Re: Best of Scandia Event – Vendor Registration Fee
Issue: The Tourism Committee seeks approval to collect $25 per vendor to
register for the 2023 Best of Scandia Holiday Shopping Extravaganza event
as collected in 2022. This fee provides each vendor with a meal for the
food truck, and for expenses such as advertising and signage. This fee is
not included in the 2023 Fee Schedule, and thus needs Council approval.
Background: Council approved collecting $25 per vendor to register for the 2022 Best
of Scandia Holiday Shopping Extravaganza event on July 19, 2022. Fees
collected in 2022 - $750, expenses paid in 2022 - $606.18. The Tourism
Committee anticipates investing in larger signage and is considering paid
advertisements to invite additional shoppers from the Twin Cities.
Organizers of this event experienced multiple “no show” vendors until
2022. Only one vendor did not attend in 2022, but notified the organizers
of their unforeseen circumstance. Organizers attributed the improved
participation rate to the required event registration fee.
Fiscal Impact: The purpose of the registration fee is to cover the expenses of this event.
Options: 1. Approve accepting a $25 fee to register as a vendor at the 2023 Best of
Scandia Holiday Shopping Extravaganza event.
