Re: Filling the vacant Public Works Director position
Background: Based on the interviews 2 candidates have been identified for further review of their
backgrounds and qualifications for the position.
Issue: The City Council needs to determine the candidate to which an offer of employment will
be made and the terms and conditions of employment that will be included in the offer.

Below is the Paid Time off schedule that is included in the City’s personnel handbook
1) Paid Time Off (PTO)
(a) Paid Time Off shall accrue according to the following schedule for regular full-
time employees:

(b) The City Council may establish higher levels of annual leave accrual for an
employee at the time of hiring if such authorization serves a public purpose.
Such accruals shall never exceed the maximum allowed.
Fiscal Impact: For preliminary budget discussions, the Step 3 has been used for the wages for
the Public Works Director position.
Options:
1. Appoint one of the 2 candidates identified for further investigation
2. Conduct investigations into backgrounds of other candidates
3. Renew the recruitment for the position.
