10.e PW - Staff Report Staff Report Date of Meeting: 8/15/2023 For: Honorable Mayor and Council From: Charles Fischer – Director of Public Works Subject: PW - Staff Report Roads/ROW Staff have been working on pothole filling and other small patches throughout the C ity. Further repairs and pothole filling will continue until fall pr ior to the winter season. Tree trimming will begin this week in selected areas clearing low or encroaching branches. Tree removals will only take place if considered hazardous to public safety. Tree trimming will continue into the winter season. The early start this year is attributed to excessive growth this spring season and the inability to complete much trimming this past winter due to the high number of snow events. Parks Playground Project: The structure of the playground has been installed and scheduling for the rubber sur face installation is for later this week. Following the curing process of the rubber surface the engineered wood fiber will be installed and the play area will be complete. Public Works staff will begin work on final grading around the playground curb for the installation grass seed or sod shortly after the beginning of the rubber surface installation. Sewer Public Works has continued discussions with vendors on the possibi lity to install meters at each residence lift station to better monitor total influent of the system and to use as a means to charge residents, connected to the system, based on usage. Discussion with the Wastewater and CIP committee wi ll continue when there is a better understanding of the costs associated to such and installation. New Maintenance Employee C harles Hervin started hi s full -time role with Public Works on Monday, August 7th and has completed training and introduction to the department. With his backg round in municipal work, he has hit the ground running assisting staff with ongoing maintenance. Equipment Public Works has completed the ordering process for the Mack Tandem Cab/Chassis and Plow equipment and accessories. It is anticipated that delivery should take place in the Fall of 2024. Staff Public Works will soon be without seasonal staff for the ongoing regular maintenance of parks and building g rounds. Full -time staff will be responsible for the regular maintenance moving forward. Additional maintenance or specific requests f or additional work for upcoming events will be hindered by limited capability to redirect staff from normal maintenance.
