5.a Chair report
PRC Chair report – for October 2023
Pickleball tourney
We had 12 teams plus 6 on the waiting list. A good time was had by all.
Trees
I had a conversation with Tom Furey about a donation of the gravel bed grown trees.
He would like to offer them to the city parks. Ideally it would be best to get them planted this coming
fall. He has four clump river birch, one Canada red cherry, and one red jewel crabapple, and a couple of
willows leftover from the public offering from 2023.
Two items for PRC consideration:
Would we like to accept the donation and if so where would be the best place to plant
them? Community center grounds would be good, we also discussed options at the Hay Lake
site. Would public works do the planting or could we pull together a volunteer group with some help
from PW?
Is this something we would like Tom to do on the Parks behalf going forward, specifically for 2024? Tom
has expressed his desire to work closely with the Parks to be of assistance. The current 10' by 20' gravel
bed is capable of nursing about 70 trees. Based on the success this year, Tom anticipates a homeowner
demand for that amount, and thus would need to expand the nursery and is willing to assist in that
effort. He would work to only select natives for the parks.
Barton Johnson
We have a meeting scheduled with the Wojtowitz family and leaders at Elim scheduled for Oct 2. A
verbal report will be delivered at the regular PRC meeting that same evening.
Midco Day Classroom visit
I have been in contact with the school and others to arrange a short award meeting with the winner of
the Midco Day story contest.
Respectfully submitted,
