Subject: Staff Report
Rink Board Replacement
The dasher board replacement is near complete with minor adjustments and final panels to be installed on the
th
Zamboni doors. The glass installation began November 28 and after installing a section of 8-foot-tall glass a
change to the installation was made. The flexibility of the of the glass caused concern over wind load during storm
events. The 8-foot sections at each end are now being installed horizontal along the straight sides of the rink. The
6-foot-tall sections meant for the side boards will be installed on the ends of the rink.
The original design for 8-foot ends and 6-foots sides has changed to 4-foot sides and 6-foot ends for the glass
paneling. To protect the building a net will be installed above the 6-foot glass.
Due to the changes to installation the complete set of glass installment will be delayed with a timeline to finish
prior to the Holiday Break. Rink flooding will not be affected as the panels will be able to be installed with or
without and ice surface.
Liten Park
The new grass walking path has been mowed within the park and appears to have already been used by residents
in the neighborhood. The park bench is ready to be installed, but with the potential of the park to have a
controlled burn completed next year, Public Works is postponing the installation until the spring after the
controlled burn is complete. The reason for delaying the installation is that the bench is made of recycled plastic
lumber and risk of melting during the burn is probable. The park sign and posts are ready to be installed and will
have been installed by the upcoming meeting or soon after.
Rink Staff/Ice Establishment
Public Works has completed filling the open positions for rink attendants and rink maintenance. All returning or
new staff will be trained and ready to work prior to opening day.
Rink flooding will begin once sufficient frost is established in the pleasure rink and consistent optimal
temperatures for flooding are projected in the long-range forecast. Currently there is no official opening day
scheduled as the long-range forecast is predicting above normal temperatures. Flooding will not begin until after
th
December 11 based on current forecasts.
