Subject: Lakeshore Monitoring Update
There is a statewide trend of declining lakeshore health and loss of natural conditions as
lakeshore (re)developement occurs which threatens biological health, water quality, and
lakeshore value. In this discussion, we (CMSCWD) will present baseline results from 2022/23
lakeshore monitoring efforts on 5 of Scandia’s lakes (Big Marine, Goose, Fish, Sand, & Hay)
and share our experience coalition building, public and landowner engagement actions, rule
enforcement & updates, and improvement opportunities heading into 2024.
We recommend you consider watching a new informational published by the Lower St. Croix
Watershed Partnership that orients community leaders & local decision -makers to some of
the lakeshore planning and ordinance update tools, practices, and opportunities available to
the Scandia community.
