Sister City Funding Request
Dear Members of the Scandia City Council,
I am writing on behalf of the Scandia Sister City Council to request your approval for funding for $250 to
support the upcoming Second Anniversary Celebration of the Sister City Charter Signing Ceremony with
Mellerud, Sweden. This event is scheduled to take place on April 22, 2024, and we are excited to
commemorate the special relationship between our two cities.
Like last year's successful event, the celebration will include a variety of activities and refreshments that
showcase the rich Swedish culture. Specifically, we plan to organize a Fika gathering immediately following the
ceremony. The Fika will feature traditional Swedish delicacies such as Smorgastarta (a Swedish sandwich
loaf), Krumkaka, Kransekake, and various other Swedish treats.
The event is expected to be attended by approximately 200 people, including 58 sixth graders from Scandia
Elementary School, along with their teachers. The participation of these young students is vital as it allows
them to learn about international cultures and promotes global awareness and understanding. We believe that
cultural exchanges like these are invaluable in fostering strong ties between communities.
In addition to seeking funding from the Scandia City Council, we are also reaching out to the Scandia-Marine
Lions and Security State Bank for contributions, each in the amount of $250, to help cover the costs associated
with this event. We greatly appreciate your consideration of our request and kindly request your support in
making this celebration a success.
The Scandia Sister City Council is dedicated to promoting cultural exchange and fostering international
friendships, and we believe that events like this one play a crucial role in achieving these objectives. Your
financial support will go a long way in ensuring the success of this celebration and further strengthening the
bond between Scandia and Mellerud.
If you have questions or need more information, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are more than willing
to provide any necessary details or clarifications.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to your positive response and support for the
Second Anniversary Celebration of the Sister City Charter Signing Ceremony.
Sincerely,
Lynne Moratzka and Patti Ray
