LATE ADDITION: 2024.03.03 Mar 2024 Chair reportPRC Chair report —for March 2024 SHA Collaboration I participated in a conference call with Sue Rodsjo from the Scandia Heritage Alliance on February 27. SHA is submitting a grant to the MN Historical Society for an Indigenous Heritage Partnership Grant, the research for which may be used for educational information of the Dakota and Ojibwe inhabitants of the area prior to the early Swedish settlements. Where much of the historical information about the early Swedish settlers will be on display in and around the reconstructed barn, the SHA is proposing that the history and key stories of the indigenous people be on display along the wetland trail. If the approx. $96,000 grant is received, the researchers would have up to a year to complete their work and produce a conceptual plan. The actual design of the wetland trail would be completed by yet to be determined landscape architects. One of the potential landscape architect organizations was in attendance on February 27. We also met with a second potential company on February 29 to discuss the project. Though no permitting has been applied for, for this effort, the SHA has consulted with governing bodies such as the DNR and Washington County Conservation District about work in and around the wetlands. Sue noted examples of similar completed trails and boardwalks in Blaine and Duluth.
