Re: Appointment of Election Judges
Background: Appointments of election judges are made by the City Council no later than 25
days preceding an election. The Council can appoint any individual to serve as an election
judge, with the exception of the following who are not qualified to serve:
o A candidate in that election;
o The husband, wife, parent, child, brother or sister of a candidate;
o The husband, wife, parent, child, brother or sister of another election judge in the
same precinct (serving at the same time); or
o A challenger.
Proposal Details: At the June 21, 2016 City Council meeting, Resolution No. 06-21-16-01 was
adopted appointing judges for the 2016 Primary and General Elections. Since that time,
additional judges have been recommended for appointment. Sally Lawrence and Kim Chisholm
have completed the required training to be certified to serve as Election Judges.
Fiscal Impact: Election judges are compensated at a rate of $9/hour. The 2016 budget includes
$5,000 for election judge compensation.
Recommendation: Appoint Kim Chisholm and Sally Lawrence as Election Judges for the
November 8, 2016 General Election.
