The new trail markers would need to be reviewed by the PRC and passed on to the City Council for approval. Our September meeting has been cancelled due to lack of quorum so our next meeting is scheduled for October 3rd. Please let me know ahead of time if you want to be on the agenda. > Thanks, > Ryan > -----Original Message----- > From: Karen Schik [mailto:kaschi@frontier.com] > Sent: Monday, August 22, 2016 2:28 PM > To: Ryan Jinks <ryanJinks@gmail.com>; Neil Soltis <n.soltis@ci.scandia.mn.us> > Subject: Event at WIP > Hi Ryan and Neil, > As you may (or may not!) know, the Friends have occasionally lead small projects at Wind in the Pines - buckthorn removal primarily. We would like to do that again this fall. It would be just a small group, maybe 4-10. We would cut stems with loppers or handsaws, then treat the stumps with Roundup. I would also like to re-establish trail markers along the trail. The existing markers have mostly disappeared. What a lot of places use now is a simple vertical rectangle of paint on trees. Great way to go as no one can steal it and it doesn't damage the tree. And lasts pretty long too. > If possible, it would be great if we can get some herbicide from the city - Roundup or Garlon 3a. I have a couple sprayers we can use, but always helps to have more on hand. > We'd need to decide on a color for the trail markers. It would be exterior paint, could be whatever you like - white, yellow, blue are commonly used. > If anyone has any old exterior paint in the appropriate color it would be great if we can use that. Or we can get some "used" paint from the county recycling place. > Date: Not sure, but it would probably be a Sat in Oct, or possibly a couple days, depending on weather, number of volunteers and how much gets done. > Great if anyone from PRC would like to help also! > People will need to bring their own tools unless the city has any that can be borrowed. > So that's the general idea - how does that sound? Can we get official city approval for this? > thanks! > Karen
