5. Review of Public Works Director applicationsSCANDIA
Staff Report
Date of Meeting: October 5, 2016
To: City Council
From: Neil Soltis, Administrator
Re: Public Works Director
Background: The job description for the Public Works Director position was posted on the City and
League of MN Cities websites and in the Forest Lake Times and Country Messenger. The City
received 6 applications for the position. Of the applicants 3 appear to have the background and
supervisory experience for the position.
Issue: When should applicant interviews be scheduled?
Proposal Details: A summary of the applicant background and qualifications follows this report.
Ideally the interviews would take place in advance of the October council meeting; however a
special meeting(s) could be called for the interviews and to take action on the appointment at a
later date.
Options:
1. Schedule interviews for all of the applicants
2. Schedule interviews for the 3 most qualified candidates
3. Take no action and look at alternate staffing options.
Recommendation: Schedule interviews for the 3 most qualified candidates on either October
12 or 13 with action on extending an offer either on those dates or at the October 18 city
Council meeting.
