5.a 2024 Chair report 2024.07.26 AugPRC Chair report – for August 2024
Court upgrade
I attended the July 16 council meeting, to give the regular PRC report and participate in the discussion
about the court re-build. Several local pickleball players were in attendance. I reviewed the results of
the MSA survey and made a case to support a configuration of 6 dedicated pickleball courts and a new
tennis court at the east side. After a long discussion regarding how much tennis is played, the council
decided that configuration with a dedicated tennis court, two dedicated pickleball courts, and a shared
area with 4 pickleball courts over a tennis court was their preferred option. They felt it provided better
options going forward. Additionally, Administrator Morell explained how funding for the project would
be provided.
On July 23, I met with Charlie Fischer and Isiah Bubany to review the exact configuration of the shared
court proposal.
I discussed the project with council member Kronmiller, who created a Facebook post seeking feedback
on whether tennis was still played. Comments generally supported tennis, though there was no
indication if two courts were needed.
Community Fun Day, formerly known as Midco Day
The biggest unknown for the event is the status of the stories. More are still needed. Principal Carufel
at Scandia Elementary has reached out to teachers at the school with limited success.
I had a call with Patti Ray and several Midco staff on July 25 regarding plans for the day. Midco is in
touch with the Farmers Market and with Meisters to coordinate the Midco booth at the Farmers Market
and free Meister Burgers at Lilleskogen. Charlie Fischer has provided an update regarding their
supporting tasks in the Aug 5 PW report to the PRC.
I have asked the members of the PRC and council member Benson to be in attendance to assist.
Pickleball tourney
Planning for the 7th annual Taco Daze pickleball is underway. I’ve sent a heads-up email to all past
participants, as well as the Forest Lake and Scandia Pickleball GroupMe social media app. Registration
will open on August 12.
The cost will once again be $20 per mixed couples team.
Bee Stignani has modified the entry form and will make registration available for August 12. New
pickleballs for the tourney were ordered and delivered. The medals from Forest Lake Printing have been
ordered.
