Background: At a Special Meeting on October 17, 2016 the Council interviewed 3 candidates
and directed staff to perform background investigations on Adam Hawkinson. Those
investigations were completed and no information was disclosed that would serve to disqualify
the applicant. At the November work session the Council approved extending a conditional
offer of employment to Adam Hawkinson as the Public Works Director subject to a favorable
reference from his current employer and passing a physical examination. Adam has accepted
the offer of employment. His current employer provided a very positive reference and the
physical examination disclosed no issues that would be a basis for disqualification.
Issue: Should Adam Hawkinson be appointed at the City's Public Works Director?
Proposal Details: In accordance with the offer of employment the starting salary will be
$60,797 per year. Subject to satisfactory performance reviews, at the end of the required 6 -
month probationary period the salary will increase to $62,014, and to $63,254 after 1 -year of
service. Annually thereafter, the salary amount would increase based on the City's
compensation plan and satisfactory performance.
Paid Time Off would be accrued at a rate of 24 days per year consistent with the benefits
provided to a 5 -year employee.
The City's health insurance coverage will become effective on February 1, 2017.
Adam's start date will be December 12, 2016.
Options:
1) Hire Adam Hawkinson in accordance with the terms stated above.
2) Take no action and re -advertise for applications.
Recommendation:
