Cinnamon Bun Day Funding Request Staff Report Date of Meeting: September 17, 2024 For: Honorable Mayor and Council From: Kyle Morell, City Administrator Subject: Scandia’s Cinnamon Bun Day Background: Gammelgarden and the Lions Club are asking the City to contribute $350 towards the seventh annual Cinnamon Bun Day, scheduled for Friday, October 4, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Volunteer labor will distribute cinnamon buns to passenger vehicles at the intersection of Olinda Trail and Oakhill Road to local businesses, teachers and staff at the elementary school, and seniors living at The Cottages. Fiscal Impact: The City has contributed to this event in previous years and made payments from the EDA Fund. Options: 1) Approve the request for $350 to support Cinnamon Bun Day 2) Deny a request for funding for Cinnamon Bun Day Recommendation: Option 1 Attachments: Lions Funding Request Scandia’s Cinnamon Bun Day Friday, October 4, 2024 To celebrate the Swedish traditfon of Cinnamon Bun Day, we respectiully request funding of $350 from Scandia’s City Council. This will be the seventh year of this much-loved event started by Lynne Moratzka, Christfne Maefsky and Lynnette Welsch. Funding is also being requested from the Scandia-Marine Lions and Gammlegården Museum. The funding will purchase 600 frozen, raw cinnamon buns, bags, and labels acknowledging all contributors. All labor will be volunteer. The cinnamon buns will be handed out to passengers in vehicles at the intersectfon of Oakhill Road and Olinda Trail on October 4 from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. They will also be taken to local businesses, the teachers and staff at Scandia Elementary School, and seniors living at The Cottages.
