05.a2 Public Comments Addition Johnson_Water Oriented Structures From: Paula Johnson Sent: Friday, November 8, 2024 1:43 PM To: Kyle Morell <k.morell@ci.scandia.mn.us> Subject: Water-Oriented Accessory Structures letter Bliss Advisory Group, As a tax paying citizen who lives in the Bliss addition on the West side of Big Marine Lake I have some concerns about the proposed changes to the Shoreline Ordinance to allow for water oriented accessory structures within the ordinary high-water level setback. Staff analysis states that they believe that the changes would allow for greater use of properties – I do not know how having a 10’x20’ structure on your property in the OHWL would increase the use and how it would increase the vegetation along the shore line. Even though it is stated that the structure would not be used for human habitation, having electrical and mechanical equipment accessible would entice that type of situation for some. If indeed residents want to place a structure like that on the property they can, as they do now, file for a variance and include the neighbors in the process. I know that BML is not as developed as many of other Minnesota Lakes but that is why we like it here. It is one of the hidden gems in the city outskirts. To keep it free of more unsightly out buildings I say no to the proposed agenda as it stands. Thank you for taking the time in reading this, Sincerely, Paula Johnson 19130 Larkspur Av N
