05.a4 Public Comments Addition Holdhusen_Water Oriented StructuresFrom:h To:Kyle Morell; mail Subject:Comments on proposed Scandia rule regarding lakeside structures Date:Saturday, November 9, 2024 11:12:26 PM Hello Kyle, My wife and I are Scandia property owners at 13430 188th Street N, and have a small (30- foot) frontage on Big Marine Lake. For several reasons we are opposed to the proposed rule that is currently under consideration. The primary reason we are opposed is that the current process already allows construction of appropriate structures with site review and notice to neighbors, while the proposed rule would allow inappropriate structures. Another concern is the proposed revisions could result in possibly less review and no notice to neighbors who may be adversely affected. There are many small lots on Big Marine Lake and it is important for property owners’ enjoyment of the lake to minimize the size and number of lakeside structures. In our specific situation, implementation of the proposed rule would likely result in unhappy neighbors, and more conflict and complaints for city personnel to deal with. I also believe from an ecological point of view it is desirable to minimize the cumulative impacts of lakeside structures and other impervious surfaces in order to protect the long term health of the lake. I discussed this with my neighbors on 188th Street, including Steve Kronmiller. I do not believe this rule revision is needed. I ask you to forward these comments and concerns to the city council and planning board for their consideration. Thank you, Bruce Holdhusen ( and Sarah Jahn 13430 188th Street North
