11.05.2024 PRC MinutesCity of Scandia Parks and Recreation Committee Monday, November 4, 2024 A meeting of the Parks & Recreation Committee was held on the above date at the Community Center and Zoom. Present: Terry Gorham (Chair,) Greg Zauner (Vice -Chair,) Dustin Hegland, and Kim Johnson. Absent: Kathy Sanville. Also Present: Charles Fischer (Public Works) and Brenda "Bee" Stignani (Office Assistant.) Gorham called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m., a quorum was present. PUBLIC FORUM None APPROVAL OF AGENDA Hegland moved to approve the agenda, seconded by Johnson. Motion carried unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Gorham called for any additions or corrections to October 7, 2024 minutes. No additions or corrections were submitted. The minutes stand approved as documented. REPORTS Chair Report Gorham will provide his comments on the Children's Story Path Update & Awards agenda item and called for any questions. No questions for Chair Gorham. Public Works Report Fischer provided a written report. Gorham added in regard to the courts, a recent request for PRC to consider a plan for inviting local businesses first, then other businesses to sponsor the courts by donations for specific amenities to enhance the new courts. Discussion concluded Gorham will connect with local court users to construct a list of amenities to consider to bring back to PRC. Public Works would prepare a future report for Council from a finalized list recommended by PRC that would include costs associated with each amenity. Fischer also added that the berm is not yet created at Hay Lake Park. This is required for installation of the park sign. OLD BUSINESS Children's Story Path Update —Awards Gorham reported going to Scandia Elementary School and presenting the Scandia Lions, Tacos, and Dalas ... Oh My! awards. Hegland volunteered to regularly laminate the new stories to be displayed in the stands. Gorham volunteered to help replace the stories on a regular basis when Heather Benson is not available. Stignani volunteered to communicate with the school again about the need for descriptions from the teachers on the assignment or something as the set from the 6t" grade students was confusing and a request for illustrations to be included. Vinterfest Planning Zauner updated planning and requested all committee members contact staff to volunteer for needed tasks. The 5t" & 6t" grade students have the button contest information. Submissions will be collected before the students are dismissed for Thanksgiving, and voting for the top three winners will be at the December PRC meeting. Zauner stated the experiment of 2nd and 3rd place buttons in 2 businesses didn't seem to increase customers. PRC Operational Calendar Gorham called for any comments and a brief discussion concluded no changes are needed at this time. NEW BUSINESS Consider Scandia Logo Shirts for Volunteers to use at City Sponsored Events November 4, 2024 Scandia Parks and Recreation Committee Page 2 of 2 Zauner inquired where Public Works staff have gotten some Scandia branded attire and requested consideration for a polo or t-shirt with Scandia's logo be provided for volunteers to wear at City Sponsored Events. Johnson volunteered to gather some preliminary information from her contact in the Hugo Lions Club. AGENDA FOR NEXT MEETING The proposed agenda for Monday, December 2, 2024: 1.
