Re: Request to Waive Fireworks Permit Application Fee
Background:
Corey Roberts, organizer of The Minnesotan adult hockey tournament held during Vinterfest, has
also organized a fireworks display over many of the past years. There is a $100 fee for a fireworks
permit application. In most all prior years, the City Council approved the Parks and Recreation
Committee’s recommendation to waive the fee as a show of appreciation for Roberts’ efforts to
contribute to the Vinterfest community celebration. Past legal counsel noted that the non-profit
status of the organizer can be considered as a basis for waiving the fee. Fire Chief Mike Hinz has
approved the Fireworks Permit application.
Issue:
Should the City Council approve waiving the fireworks permit application fee of $100?
Proposal Details:
Staff is recommending the fireworks permit application fee be waived.
Options:
1) Approve waiving the fee.
2) Do not approve waiving the fee.
3) Approve reducing the fee.
Recommendation:
Option 1
Discharge will be at ballfield south of event location (water tower barn location) See map
