Conclusions/Trends:
Over the last three months there have been 3 Burglaries in the Scandia area. One residence
access was gained through an unlocked window and several guns were stolen out of the house when
nobody was home. Second one was at a cabin that was broken into on two different occasions and
nothing was taken. Several calls for suspicious vehicles around Scandia but none turned out to be
burglary suspects or able to link to these calls. Keep on calling if anything is seen that is suspicious.
As they winter begins so do all the accidents during this time of the year. Responded to several
accidents as the winter and snowfall begins. Half of the accidents are related to hitting a deer. Most of
those accidents do not get reported. Always remember to call the Sheriff’s office if you are involved in
an accident even one that involves a deer. Another reminder to also call if someone wants a tag for a
deer that has been hit by a vehicle and to not just take it home. Possession of that deer is against the
law without a tag.
This year the snow fall is significant enough for snowmobiles to be out enjoying the trails. If one
chooses to ride in the ditch remember that you can only ride in the road right of way and not on the
road side angle of the ditch. Also to ride on the right side of the road with traffic after sunset. There has
been issues in the past of riding across private property and damaging crop fields. Remember to stay on
the trails or in the right of way. A reminder for property owners that it is against the law to block the
right or way with any kind of barrier like caution tape or saw horses to prevent snowmobiles from riding
in the right of way is against the law and one can be held liable if injury occurs to the rider.
During the last year there has been a huge issue of dogs running loose off their property. Issue
have been killing chickens and other farm animals, killing deer, defecating on others property and being
aggressive towards people and other pets. Remember if your dog is not on your property it has be
leashed and under your control. If it is observed a citation will be issued and dog returned or picked up
by animal control.
