03. Seasonal Public Works Hire Seasonal Hiring Date of Meeting: 5/7/2025 To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Charles Fischer – Director of Public Works Re: Hiring Seasonal Maintenance Worker Background: Since 2022 the City has advertised for two Seasonal Parks Maintenance Workers to maintain City facilities and grounds with various other duties as assigned. An employee who has seasonally worked for the City has applied to return again.  Greg VanDershaegen, who has previously worked in this position for multiple seasons Based on the labor agreement with the Union, non-student part-time employees can be employed for up to 67 work days without becoming a member of the Union. This would provide for 13 weeks of employment for Mr. VanDershaegen. Employment of Mr. VanDershaegen will begin shortly after consent to hire and run through mid-August. Issue: Should the City hire Greg VanDershaegen to fill the Seasonal Park Grounds Maintenance Worker position? Request: Approve hiring Greg VanDersaegen for the pay rate of $17.75/hour for the Seasonal Park Grounds Maintenance Position.
