6.a Staff Report-comprehensive plan steering committee Staff Report Date of Meeting: February 7, 2017 To: Planning Commission From: Neil Soltis, Administrator Re: Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee appointments Background: At its work session on January 4, the City Council discussed the composition of a Steering Committee be established to have a series of 3 higher level meetings on the plan. The Council allotted 2 of the 9 positions on the Steering Committee to be Planning Commission representatives. All of the positions on the Committee, with the exceptions of the Planning Commission representatives have been appointed. Currently the Committee members are as follows:  Citizen John Herman  Citizen Dan Lee  Citizen Julie Ruddy  Citizen Dominic Mitchell  Council Christine Maefsky  EDA Robert Feidt  Parks & Rec Dustin Hegland  Planning TBD  Planning TBD Issue: Who should the Planning Commission appoint as representatives on the Steering Committee? The date of the first meeting has not been set but is anticipated in early March. The site does have a survey that was first used at a pop-up meeting during the Lions Pancake Breakfast during Vinterfest. Steering Committee Workshop Structure Workshop #1: The first workshop will include background on the Comprehensive Plan process and City data and projections. Committee members will complete a SWOT analysis to identify critical issues. Workshop #2: The second workshop will review the results of the SWOT analysis, the input from the Focus Groups and the initial pop-up meeting. Committee members will provide input on the content of the online community survey. Workshop #3: At the third workshop, the Commissioners will review the results of the online survey and provide recommendations on the Land Use Plan.
