Subject: Scandia Merchandise
At the May 7 City Council Work session, the Council discussed the possibility of selling City
Merchandise. After a brief discussion with the City Attorney, we learned that a city has no
statutory right to engage in commerce; however, an Economic Development Authority does.
The City logo and the new Parks and Recreation logo could both be placed on merchandise and
sold.
Items to consider are:
1) Who or where would merchandise be sold
2) Where would the money come from to develop and manufacture the merchandise
3) Where would the proceeds from the sale go
