Members in Attendance: Sue Dickens, Jaimin Brown, Lynne Moratzka and Sarah Porubcansky.
Absent: Renee Lee. Additional Attendees: Jim Gribble (Council Representative) and Brenda “Bee”
Stignani (Office Assistant).
Call to Order –Chair Dickens called the meeting to order at 4:03 p.m., a quorum is present. Dickens
requested each member introduce themselves to welcome Jaimin Brown.
Approve the Agenda – Porubcansky moved, Moratzka seconded, to approve the agenda with
Flexibility. Motion carried unanimously.
Approve the Minutes – Moratzka moved, Porubcansky seconded, to approve April 22, 2025
minutes. Motion carried unanimously.
Update List of 2025 Community Events – Porubcansky left a voicemail message for Karen Schik
regarding any Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails events to be added to the 2025 Community Events
list, no response yet.
• Vinterfest Support Ideas – Greg Zauner requested Tourism Committee consider
organizing a craft sale or other activity to host on as a part of Vinterfest. Dickens
suggested partnering with Scandia Elementary School instead to sponsor a mini carnival
family event. Gribble pointed out how dependent Vinterfest is on the weather, no ice or
too much cold and snow all affect the number of participants. Further discussion
considered partnering with the Marine Library for puppeteers or a story time, hosting a
kid’s pet show, collaborate with Loon Holistic Health for a Toddler Dance Party, cake
walk with pre-packaged mini cakes only, Tell a Tall Tale contest (invite the High School
Speech Team) or Kid’s Jokes Contest. Dickens clarified if Tourism Committee members
would support/run one or two events at Vinterfest on Sunday, all present consented.
Dickens volunteered to follow up with potential partners and to communicate further with
Zauner to clarify the times as discussion concluded that early afternoon to accommodate
family schedules to allow for church and naps.
• Fall Crawl – Dickens suggested to promote this event on September 20th & 21st to replace
the December Scandia Evening Adventures event. The collaboration suggestion with
Marine has come to a dead end. Dickens is considering placing a paid advertisement
(perhaps incorporating a BINGO check off) with an incentive for shoppers to visit all
businesses participating in the Fall Crawl. Moratzka suggested considering adding an
activity to the October Scandia Evening Adventures event, pumpkin carving. The Scandia
Farmers Market passed out pumpkin seeds during their plant sale in May and asked
families to plant them and bring some pumpkins back as donations for other families to
carve.
• VinterLights! - Dickens requested opening vendor applications soon and will work out
the specific details with staff. Moratzka suggested incorporating Advent Crafts in the
Heritage Room, inviting Elim Church to coordinate. Perhaps inviting Elim to participate
in Scandia Evening Adventures with Advent Crafts also. Other suggestions offered to
consider a medallion hunt where the clues are not on social media but in different local
businesses who are participating and invest the time into setting up the Wild Goosechase
app for a scavenger hunt contest.
• National Night Out – August 5th, Deputy Booth has invited Tourism Committee to host
an information table. Discussion concluded to host with flyers or information about

upcoming Tourism events (Fall Crawl, VinterLights! & Scandia Evening Adventures) with
back-to-school themed trinket items to pass out to kids.
Business Breakfasts – Dickens requested all committee members to review the minutes and look
over the survey. Discussion concluded to add questions to the survey to request feedback as to what
day of the week to host Breakfast Meetings and how often. Staff to update the survey to be included
with the minutes.
Community Wide Garage Sale Planning – Staff reported receiving complaints of the banners being
misleading as this year, and once very 7 years, June 1st is on a Sunday and therefore is not included in
the sale days of Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Discussion concluded that the banners will be accurate
most years and staff will continue to use social media to educate the community that the Annual
Community Wide Garage Sale will always be the weekend after Memorial Day.
Flexibility – Moratzka updated the committee that the June 25th Softball Tournament needs
volunteers for welcoming and directing traffic more than facilitating games. Moratzka requested all
volunteers bring their own safety vest if they own one. Dickens to look into reusable name tags to
identify Tourism Committee volunteers and update Lee.
Adjournment – Motion by Dickens, seconded by Moratzka, to adjourn the meeting Motion
carried unanimously.
Meeting adjourned at 5:38 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by
Brenda “Bee” Stignani, Office Assistant
