Sale of Merchandise
Scandia resident Charlie McCarty, owner of Scratch that Etch, attended the meeting at the
invitation of EDA President Kronmiller. Scratch that Etch is a print and media company that
specializes in engraving images and phrases on a variety of items. The EDA is exploring the
best way for Scandia to sell merchandise, whether through an online store or by partnering with
local merchants to sell city-branded merchandise. The Board spent time discussing whether the
City should trademark its logo, what the best way to partner with local businesses would be, and
potentially licensing the City logo for use by others. Treasurer Korby introduced Apparel Plus,
an online clothing store based in Forest Lake. Staff will follow-up with questions regarding the
trademarking of our logo and identify potential items for sale.
Summary of Tourism Committee Meeting
Councilmember Gribble reported that the Tourism Committee met earlier in the day and
discussed the planning for Vinterlights. They asked about the roles and responsibilities of
Tourism and EDA. The next Business Breakfast will be in mid to late October 2026.
Welcome Letters
The Board discussed sending welcome letters to new property owners in the Community.
Letters could be sent monthly or quarterly, and information can be gathered from Washington
County tax records or realtor information on sold homes. The Board also discussed contacting
local businesses about participation in the welcome letter.
Scandia City Center Study and Wayfinding
The original cost of the Wayfiding Master Plan was over $25,000; the revised cost with the
information provided by the Scandia City Center Study is not to exceed $19,520. MnDOT and
the County require the Plan to install signs to local businesses and attractions along State and
County roads. The Board asked Staff to find out how long the plan is good for, how much the
signs would cost, and how the City would pay for them. Staff will report back at a later meeting.
Motion to adjourn made by Chivas and seconded by Smith. Motion carried unanimously.
Respectfully submitted by:
Kyle Morell, EDA Executive Director
