Scandia Tourism Committee, Community Center Hall September 23, 2025
Members in Attendance: Sue Dickens, Jaimin Brown, Renee Lee, Sarah Porubcansky and Jim
Gribble. Absent: Lynne Moratzka. Additional Attendees: Kyle Morell, City Administrator
Call to Order –Chair Dickens called the meeting to order at 5:07 p.m. A quorum is present.
Approve the Agenda –Dickens moved, Porubcansky seconded, to approve the agenda with
Flexibility. Motion carried unanimously.
Approve the Minutes – Porubcansky moved, Lee seconded, to approve the August 26, 2025,
minutes. Motion carried unanimously.
Scandia Evening Adventures
Dickens stated she did not know which businesses were participating. The hope is that more
restaurants will participate this year. This item was tabled until the October meeting.
FLEXIBILITY - Fall Crawl
Fifteen businesses participated. The feedback from the event was good. Both Dickens Pickens and
Gammelgarden reported good business weekends. Some people visited businesses only to get their
passports stamped. Lee asked what metrics the Committee uses to gauge the effect of their events.
How can the Committee be sure its events are attracting non-residents, instead of more residents?
Lee also asked if the Committee does annual planning. Dickens indicated that the joint meeting with
the EDA will help define roles and enable annual planning.
Vinterlights Planning
Dickens asked the Committee to help with various aspects of event planning and coordination.
Dickens and Lee will work on advertising and strategies. Porubcansky will coordinate the music for
the event. Dickens will coordinate indoor vendors, noting there are only five spots left available.
Gribble will coordinate outside events. Porubcansky and Lee will be out of town for the event, which
is on November 30.
Vinterlights Update
The Committee is seeking ideas for a Sunday event for Vinterfest. Currently, they are thinking about
a food demo that an audience can view. More work on this will be needed.
FLEXIBILITY - Murals
Porubcansky brought up the idea of murals. She requested that this item be added to the January
agenda, along with some information on available grants.
Adjournment – Motion by Dickens, seconded by Porubcansky, to adjourn the meeting
Motion carried unanimously.
