10.e Public Works -Staff Report Staff Report Date of Meeting: 10/21/2025 For: Mayor and City Council From: Charles Fischer – Director of Public Works Subject: PW - Staff Report Roads/ ROW Ditch mowing has continued through the eastern half of the City. Staff are near complete of all ditch area east of Olinda Trail. Staff will be moving into the southwestern section this week or next. We hope to complete this before the snow starts to fall this winter. Once the mowing is complete or is forced to be stopped due to weather, staff will begin tree trimming. Dead, dying or hazardous trees are continuing to be removed throughout the City. After high wind events more trees are leaning over roadways and becoming a safety hazard. Tree trimming will begin once the ditch mowing is complete. Staff have started the conversion process of the equipment from summer to winter operation. Crack filling on selected roads is complete: Odell neighborhood roads, 191st St, and 220th/Kirk Ave. The Odell neighborhood had already been seal coated in the past but the old cracks which were filled had separated and needed additional sealant. Kirk Ave/220th St and 191st St were milled and overlayed in 2021 and needed crack filling prior to winter before additional moisture reached the road base. Parks The skatepark amenities will be removed soon and the rink and boards prepped for the winter season. Dead ash trees were removed at the Wayne Erickson ballfield. Most of the removed trees were small in diameter, but there was one mature ash tree removed near the maintenance gate of the ballfield fence. Sewer Tank pumping in the Bliss and Anderson Erickson systems continues this month with the number of tanks to be pumped this season around half of last year’s total. Public Works staff have attended continuing education for their respective mandatory licenses. Public Works is currently in a season where all staff are due for renewals and also required to change the classification of their current D license to a C license. All staff requiring a classification change must test into the new standard which is caused by the upcoming treatment project in the Bliss drain field.
