Get the Gateway Trail to Scandia
Almost there!
The Gateway Trail currently runs 19
miles from St Paul to Pine Point Park in Washington County and is the most popular
trail in Minnesota with around 125,000 visitors per year. The DNR, City of Scandia,
Gateway Brown's Creek Trail Association, Parks and Trails Council of MN and other
community partners are working to extend this trail to the City of Scandia.
There is currently a $2.96 million bonding request by the City of Scandia to the state
of Minnesota to construct a critical portion of the trail extension that will ultimately
connect Scandia to William O'Brien State Park. Funding would cover construction of a
one-mile segment of trail and a safety tunnel under a commonly used road. While
Scandia is a popular on road bicycling destination, there is strong community support
and a need for the off- road trails funded in this request to provide greater appeal
and safety for families and children to use and access William O'Brien State park to
and from Scandia. As the trail extension brings trail users to Scandia it will also add to
the city's economic vitality as it works to increase its appeal to residents and visitors
to enjoy the natural and historic resources of this city.

Way back in the old days in 1992 they put in a 3-mile section that went from North Saint Paul to County Road 12.I was
biking along County Road 12 and thought I would go on the trail and see how many people were using it.I stopped
counting at 70 and was pretty sure this was a good use of funds,that was many years ago and well the trail could use a
little bit of new Blacktop it does bode well for cyclists.

My family and I enjoy the Gateway trail and would love to see it extended to Scandia and beyond.I've noticed a big
increase in seniors using the trail just in the past year with the popularity of e-bikes and I know those users are definitely

Stillwater resident,regularly ride the gateway trail myself and with the Stillwater MTN Bike team,would be nice to have
safe trail connection to Scandia to avoid the on road riding that has potential risks.I love riding the trail as I don't have to
worry about traffic.This brings so many Twin Cities bikers to the area.Also with E-bikes I notice that it is bringing a much
older crowd to the trails which is great.Biking has become a boost to local economies.

I'm a regular Gateway Trail user.It's fantastic from St.Paul to Washington County.I see regular traffic on the trail year-

I have been bicycling in Montana for 50 years.My entire MSP family(sons,daughters,grandchildren)are avid bicyclists.
Upon retirement,I am moving to Minnesota to join them and enjoy the amazing bicycle trail system.I very much look

The Gateway is our favorite bike trail in the metro area.We would love to start in Scandia instead of driving to Pine Point

My partner and I did an overnight tour from Saint Paul to Lebanon Hills in Eagan.It was an amazing trip,mostly
completed on paved bike trails.We felt safe the entire time.In addition to supporting Lebannon Hills through reserving a
campsite,during our ride we stopped at several local businesses.A paved trail would help support local economies,as
well as the DNR through park patronage.Thank you!
