Dear T-Mobile Hometown Grant Program Review Committee,
The City of Scandia is issuing a letter of support for the Scandia Elementary PTO and their work with the
Scandia Elementary Playground Project.
The City of Scandia is small, rural community located northeast of the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area of
Minnesota. The City of Scandia has a rich history as the first Swedish immigrants to settle in Minnesota. We
value our small-town, rural rooted community and are dedicated to keeping our community driven culture a
focal point of how we operate and function. Scandia’s 39.7 square miles of township represent a scenic, rolling
landscape dotted with lakes, woodlands, farms, and low-density rural development.
Within our city, Scandia Elementary is one of the areas of great activity and bustle. They are a premier school
within the Forest Lake Area School District, known for their small class sizes, excellent curriculum and
teaching, and superb educational experience. In addition, the school is an International Baccalaureate World
School, adding an impressive set of criteria to its teaching content.
We understand Scandia Elementary is looking to replace its existing school playground with a new playground.
As the City of Scandia, we support their endeavor to do so and are encouraged, as it will provide another
attraction to our community, that is free, and is able to serve many families and youth that live and travel to our
area.
We value Scandia Elementary being in our city and recognize the importance of having a safe space for children
and community members to play and connect. The school and the playground offer a beneficial and appreciated
point of connection and vibrancy for our city.
