10.e Public Works-Staff Report Staff Report Date of Meeting: 12/16/2025 For: Mayor and City Council From: Charles Fischer – Director of Public Works Subject: PW - Staff Report Roads/ ROW Ditch mowing has ended for the season with an abrupt end to the 50-degree weather to below average temps and ample amount of snowfall. Dead, dying or hazardous trees are continuing to be removed throughout the City. After high wind events this season more trees are leaning over roadways and have become a safety hazard. Tree trimming will begin once the ditch mowing is complete. Since the beginning of December Public Works staff have been deployed for four snow and ice control events. The most recent being a six inch snow fall. In the four snow events this season we have received over twelve inches of snow. Public has started sending warning notices to residents who are depositing snow on or across the roadway. This letter is to inform the resident that it is against State Statute and if noticed on a second occurrence a citation will be administered. Once a citation is administered the property owner will be responsible to pay the fine and appear in court. Parks Staff began flooding the rink the for the first time this season on December 4th. Since the initial flooding, snow events have reduced the opportunity to continue flooding. The pleasure rink is struggling as there are still pockets where no frost has established. We hope to have cold temperatures again and begin flooding when possible. A notice of a potential December 20th opening went out a week ago, but in regards to delayed flooding and temperatures a later date is likely. Sewer A new pump is being installed in the A/E lift station. The previous pump developed a seal leak and water infiltrated the motor section of the pump corroding the windings. After installing the new pump the VFD control went out and is now being replaced as well. The installation took place on December 11th. Buildings The kitchen floor project has started and will run through mid-January. Public Works is also looking into repairing the walls in the Heritage Room once the kitchen items are able to removed from the room.
