10.e Public Works Report Staff Report Date of MeeƟng: 4/21/2026 For: Mayor and City Council From: Charles Fischer – Director of Public Works Subject: PW - Staff Report Roads/ ROW Staff have been compleƟng shoulder repairs and pothole filling. Spring road grading is complete and staff will perform another round of grading in late April or early May prior to the calcium chloride applicaƟon. Due to the warmer than average spring and lack of rain roads are drying out sooner than expected and an earlier applicaƟon may happen. ApplicaƟon will be done when adequate moisture is measured at the road surface and when no heavy rain events are forecasted. If applicaƟon is completed in dry weather, it becomes ineffecƟve and if applied right before heavy rain the risk of the applicaƟon washing off the road is high. AddiƟonal equipment to offset some of the weather dictaƟng issues could help reduce dust complaints, but due to the low volume of unpaved roads would not be a cost-effecƟve measure for the CIty. AddiƟonal equipment would include a water truck and roller esƟmated to cost $200,000-$300,000 combined. Public Works conƟnues to request paving the gravel roads and that the CIP CommiƩee recommend paving at least the populated secƟon of 185th and Oakgreen to start this process. By conƟnuing to maintain gravel road secƟons, requires the City to budget for and perform addiƟonal maintenance not required by a paved road. AddiƟonal resources are required that could be put into other operaƟons as the remaining gravel roads are paved. Residents on gravel roads complain about dust and the use of calcium chloride while Public Works is doing what it can to balance both of these complaints. Parks Spring maintenance has not started to date, due to limited staff availability, but will begin as staff become available. Sewer The Bliss system received a valve vault retrofiƫng due to a broken pipe. Emergency repairs were made to the main liŌ staƟon in the neighborhood on 189th St. The iniƟal emergency repair allowed for the liŌ staƟon to operate through the weekend unƟl complete and final repairs could be made. By the end of the week the liŌ staƟon was back to operaƟng at full capacity with new valves and back flow preventers installed. Staff Report Date of MeeƟng: 4/21/2026 For: Mayor and City Council From: Charles Fischer – Director of Public Works Subject: PW - Staff Report Maintenance PosiƟon Hiring Process The two open maintenance posiƟons were adverƟsed on mulƟple plaƞorms and the applicaƟon deadline was April 13th. In total, the City received 30 applicaƟons and we are currently finalizing the review process and will be conducƟng virtual interviews for the first round of selected candidates. We are tentaƟvely seeking to conduct 15 virtual interviews scheduled for roughly 5-10 minutes each and then choose 6-8 candidates for in-person interviews. The goal is to recommend two final candidates at the June work session or regular meeƟng to the City Council.
