May 2026 Chair Report

Bill’s Tai Chi class on Saturdays is full. It’s running May 2 – July 4.
I talked to Sue Rodsjo today about having Forest Lake High School students build a new building for
the Wayne Erickson ballpark. The students are currently building the ice cream/coffee shop for the
Scandia Heritage Alliance. Joe Letco is their instructor which the kids refer to as coach. Sue gave me
a set of plans for their building. If we can use it with minor modification, maybe we can get the original
designer to change them for a reduced cost.
Their structure is 10’ X 16’. The materials are approximately $15,000. They were able to get a grant for
materials from Arrow Building. If you stress the project is to provide an opportunity to educate kids in
the trades, it helps get donations. There are shortages of trades people. The electrician and plumber
donated their time at the school to help the students. We would have to find our own electrician and
plumber for our project. They weren’t sourced by the school.
If we use it for a concession stand, we have to get the interior design approved from Washington
County. Electrical and plumbing hook-ups require permits. Probably have to pay for labor.
Transporting their building to the site will be done by Spencer Heavy Movers for $4500 + $1000 to
remove the roof. The building height plus trailer height is more than 16’. So the roof will have to be
removed before transporting and reattached at the site. If we shorten it, we won’t have to do that.
Their building is currently located outside of the high school on the southeast side if you want to see
its current state.
