Staff Report
Date of Meeting: 05/19/2026
For: Mayor and City Council
From: Charles Fischer – Director of Public Works
Subject: PW - Staff Report
Roads/ ROW
Extensive pot hole filling was competed on 240th St between Olinda Trail and Hwy 95. This stretch of roadway is
shared with Franconia Township and is slated to be reconstructed in 2027.
Additional ROW repairs are scheduled to be complete after the last heavy rain event of 2” a few weeks ago.
Areas that were still soft from the spring eroded where water collected and ran off the road surface.
The spring Calcium Chloride applications are complete.
Parks
The Wayne Erickson field spring maintenance was completed prior to the first rental of the season. Each spring
the field is visually looking better, but the infield will need additional material added by the end of this season or
in the spring next year. An estimate of around 100 tons of material will need to be hauled in to rebuild the crown
in the infield and added to shallow areas where field mix is at minimal depth to continue maintenance.
Sewer
Public Works responded to an alarm in the Bliss system on a residential property and found a failed pump. The
tanks were pumped down and the new pump was installed the next morning. Residents continue to have
questions about who is paying for individual repairs and pumping. Public Works will send out another mailer
with an upcoming billing cycle to remind users of our system maintenance responsibilities and emergency
contacts when there is an alarm or concern with the system serving their property.
Equipment
The public work loader is down and in for repair of the axle. The shift linkage failed and caused damage within
the gear box. The equipment repair budget will be impacted greatly with this repair. Final costs are to be
determined. Although the repair line item will be impacted the overall general public works budget will be able
to absorb the cost.
