Motion by Porubcansky, seconded by Moratzka, to approve the May 26, 2026, Tourism
Meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously.
Discussion – Draft Tourism Work Plan
• Potential Bike Ride – Dickens facilitated a discussion surrounding the viability of the
Tourism Committee in general, the role of Tourism Committee with the EDA who may or
may not be taking on a Chamber of Commerce type -role, and consideration of both current
and proposed events in 2026. The Annual Community Wide Garage sale is structured in a
way that staff can facilitate the event with little, or no, input from the Tourism Committee
members. Dickens volunteered to organize VinterLights! in 2026 as planned, and reach out
to area businesses with a hand out to see if the 2026 Fall Crawl, Scandia Evening Adventures
and or a Bike Ride in 2027 are of interest. All present consented to taking a pause, to see if
each committee member can identify a need that Scandia has which is not already addressed
by a local business or other organization. Are there advertising opportunities for the city to
place ads in other regional tourist magazines, in addition to the St Croix Valley Visitors Guide?
Can Tourism meet less frequently to make such recommendations for spending Tourism
Funds? Or consider events in the future to support the Gateway Trail and Scandia Heritage
Alliance projects as tourism opportunities in Scandia?
Discussion concluded that the next Tourism Committee meeting will be held on
Tuesday, January 26, 2027.
Adjournment – Motion by Dickens, seconded by Moratzka, to adjourn the meeting. Motion
carried unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 5:02 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by
Brenda “Bee” Stignani, Office Assistant
