9.h Staff Report-negotiating team for labor agreementStaff Report Date of Meeting: June 20, 2017 To: City Council From: Neil Soltis, Administrator Re: Labor Negotiations Background: The labor agreement with the International Union of Operating engineers Local No. 49 covering the 3 full-time Public work employees extends through December 31, 2017. Corey Bergerson, the Area Business Representative for the Union, has indicated that they are ready to meet regarding the next agreement. For budget purposes, it would be helpful to expedite the discussion so any financial adjustments to the current agreement can be factored in when preparing for the 2018 budget Issue: Who should be on the team to bargain with the Union on the contract renewal? Proposal Details: Mayor Simonson and Council member Schneider were appointed by the Council to be on the negotiating team for the current agreement. Any agreement will need to come before the Council for final approval. Options: 1) Select one or two Council members to be on the negotiating team 2) Have staff complete negotiations without Council representation Recommendation: Identify one but no more than two Council members to assist with negotiations.
