5.a) Taco Daze Pickleball ProposalProposal for PRC Participation at Taco Daze
Event to replace Dodgeball is a Pickle Ball tourney, co- sponsored with the Lions
About Pickle Ball
Pickle Ball is a great game for someone that finds tennis or racquetball to be too demanding. In
other words, it is a great game for seniors. Future programming in Scandia, due to shifting
demographics, will target seniors and senior -activity.
Pickle Ball is growing in popularity. Regular leagues and informal Pickle -ball gatherings are
popular in Forest Lake (the'Y' and at Belz park), Andover, Stillwater, Osceola and Shoreview. 7
new outdoor courts will be operational in Forest Lake by mid -summer 2017.
The Taco Daze event will be a great demonstration of the game. We anticipate the activity
around the tennis courts will draw the attention of Taco Daze attendees, both local -residents
and those not so local.
We expect to bring up to 32 players, plus families, to Scandia on September 9. The Taco Daze
event will be a 16 team (mixed -doubles) event, and run for 3 to 4 hours, finishing -up prior to the
parade. Informal discussions with the Forest Lake 'y' pickle-ballers indicate high interest. We
also expect high interest from the other groups mentioned above.

Need to add to official Taco Daze communications —web sites, posters, by early July. In
progress.
Will create a registration form (PDF) on e.g., the Scandia PRC site, and Taco Daze sites, others
Will target the groups in Forest Lake, Stillwater, Lino, Andover, and Osceola
Some consideration was made for an 'over -40' entry requirement; a mixed couples format be
used instead
Risks
Not meeting full entry numbers
There is high interest and several verbal commitments already from the Forest Lake 'Y" Pickle
Ball players, plus the marketing plan to reach out to the various groups mentioned will reach
high numbers. The costs are well in line with other similar tournaments.
Bad weather
Most Pickle Ball tournaments are indoors. Wind is not a cancellation risk, however wet courts
are. Wet courts are un -suitable for play. Historically weather is good given the time of year.
