Vice -Chair Report
June 19, 2017
June 5 meeting
The June 5 meeting was cancelled due to lack of quorum. A special meeting on June 19 for the
discussion of the veteran's memorial will now include the agenda from the June 5 meeting.
Vets Memorial
Tom Triplett delivered the draft design of the landscaping plan for the Veterans memorial. That draft
was filed with the city, note, as a draft proposal. Tom has been informed of a PRC meeting on June 19
to review the plan. Both administrator Soltis and councilman Schneider agreed that a PRC
recommendation was needed for the approval of the plan. The friends also have been informed of the
meeting to represent their perspective.
Capital Improvement Committee
May 25 capital improvement plan committee (CIP) met on May 25. This group has worked to develop a
prioritization process for capital improvements. The focus of the meetings has been on roads and septic
issues, other topics include, but not limited to, equipment for the fire department and funding for the
parks. The target for recommendations is August / September.
Senior Proerams
The next step is to set up the focus group with the Lions, as which point we will use the information to
work with Osceola Medical Center and possibly the Forest Lake Y. I met informally with Amy Dahl's
assistant at the Forest Lake'Y' on June 12 to explain the process.
City Council Update
The city council working meeting met on June 7. The agenda is available on the website. Of note for
the PRC:
Jodi Feldman has resigned from the PRC. Soltis has communicated the opening and will move
quickly to identify a replacement for her term as soon as reasonable.
Mayor Maefsky discussed the possibility to push for State Bond funding to accelerate the
advancement of the Gateway trail connection to the Scandia city center.
Taco Daze event
The Lions have proposed a pickleball tournament as the replacement event for Dodgeball. More
information about the event, including a decision regarding PRC's involvement at the event, will be
presented at the June 19 meeting.
The Lions recently approved funding to mark the tennis courts immediately adjacent to the community
center for pickleball. Administrator Soltis will take it to the city council on June 20 for approval.
Cycling Scandia
The kickoff meeting for Cycling Scandia was held on June 13, with focus on the up -coming July 4 week-
end survey, basic needs (water, store, rest -areas) and some discussion on longer term plans for the
group.
