9.b Staff Report-firefighter wage increase Staff Report Date of Meeting: To: City Council From: Neil Soltis, Administrator Re: Fire Department Wage increase Background: Chief Hinz has requested a discussion on a fire fighter pay increase. Fire wages were last increased in 2013 by $1.00 / hour. The 2017 operating budget provided for a 3% increase in wages for the Fire Department. No action has been taken to approve the increase that has been provided for in the budget. Issue: Should a resolution approving the 3% wage increase be submitted for consideration by the Council? Fiscal Impact: As shown in the table below, the impact of a 3% wage increase would have averaged roughly $2,100 a year with payroll taxes.
