3.b Brunfelt Good Neighbor Proclamation
SCANDIA GOOD NEIGHBOR AWARD PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, respecting and caring for others is a hallmark of the American character, and
central to how we as a community live; and
WHEREAS, respect and care for and from neighbors creates a more sustainable, resilient
community and makes Scandia a great place to live and be; and
WHEREAS, Scandia throughout its history has been the beneficiary of being a community
of Good Neighbors; and
WHEREAS, being a Good Neighbor demonstrates commitment, dedication, and caring for
the community; and
WHEREAS, being a Good Neighbor increases the well-being of individuals and of the
community in which they live; and
WHEREAS, Ross Brunfelt has demonstrated the qualities of being a Good Neighbor and
has been nominated to receive this Award; and
WHEREAS, four years ago Ross Brunfelt showed the courage and initiative to begin the
Fat Cat Triathlon, an exciting Scandia based community event that would go on to raise
considerable scholarship money for area youth. Not knowing for sure if his idea would
“fly”, he formed a strong team of Lions members and together they made plans based on
the work of others and their own gut level ideas. Now, four years later, Ross’s idea has
become a highly successful Scandia tradition, which this year raised $14,000 in
scholarships. Ross is a great guy and a great Good Neighbor as he leads the Fat Cat
Triathlon effort which is already being planned for 2018.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Scandia presents the Scandia Good
Neighbor Award to Ross Brunfelt, in recognition and appreciation.
Presented this 17th day of October, 2017
Christine Maefsky, Mayor City of Scandia
