3.b) FF Training and Certification RequirementsNo member shall jokingly or maliciously turn a stream of water on any person or
cause it to be directed in or on any property unnecessarily. No member shall
engage in activities, even with innocent intentions that may cause harm to others.
Non -Members
No firefighter will permit any non -emergency personnel to enter a fire or
emergency scene without the approval of the Officer in Charge. The Officer in
Charge shall see that a record is kept of all property removed from a fire scene
and shall make sure that no essential evidence is removed from the scene prior
to investigation of the fire.
Felony
A special level of trust must be maintained between citizens and firefighters.
Therefore, any member charged with a felony must report the charges, in writing,
to the Fire Chief and City Administrator. The member may attend training but
may not report to any emergency scenes.
If convicted of a felony, membership will be immediately terminated.
Member Training and Certification Requirements
While a member of the Scandia Fire Department, members will be required to
complete and maintain the certifications as listed below:
• Within the first twenty-four (24) months of service, all members will be
successfully certified as an EMT and a Firefighter I.
• Within the first thirty-six (36) months, the member will be certified in
Emergency Driving and Basic Fire Pump Operations.
• Within the first forty-eight (48) months, the member will be certified to the
Haz-Mat Operational level.
• Within the first sixty (60) months, the member will successfully complete the
Firefighter II Certification.
The required training and maintenance of the required certifications are the
responsibility of the member. The cost of obtaining and maintaining the required
certifications will be paid by the city. Any additional training within, or outside the
department must be approved by the Chief before payment will be made.
Grandfather Clause
Any member that has completed the member's probationary period prior to
approval of this document will not be required to certify, nor maintain certification
to the standards as described. These members are, however, strongly
