Re: Sidewalk Snow Removal
Background: Staff met with Colleen Nora to discuss which sidewalks the City
maintains in the winter. The City’s policy states staff will maintain the
sidewalks on Olinda Trail from 209th Street to Scandia Trail and Oakhill
Road from Oakhill Court to Olinda Trail. Currently, staff maintains the
west side of Olinda Trail from Scandia Trail to Oakhill Road, the east side
of Olinda Trail from Elim Church to 209th Street, and the south side of
Oakhill Road from Oakhill Court to Olinda Trail.
Proposal: Due to the ambiguity of the policy, Mrs. Nora is requesting the City add
the east side of Olinda Trail north of Oakhill Road and the north side of
Oakhill Road west of Olinda Trail. Staff is proposing to maintain the
existing sidewalks and amend the policy to clarify exactly what sidewalks
will be maintained.
Issue: Should the City maintain sidewalks in the winter?
Fiscal Impact: It takes about half an hour to snow blow the current sidewalks. Staff
usually coincides snow blowing the sidewalks with removing snow from
the skating rinks and City Hall.
Options: 1) Maintain the existing sidewalks but amend the policy to only include
the west side of Olinda Trail from Scandia Trail to Oakhill Road, the
east side of Olinda Trail from 180 feet south of Oakhill Road to 209th
Street, and the south side of Oakhill Road from Oakhill Court to
Olinda Trail.
2) Maintain the additional sidewalks Mrs. Nora is requesting.
3) Do not maintain any of the sidewalks.
4) Maintain all of the sidewalks.
5) Some other option.
Recommendation: Option 1
