Re: Vinterfest 2018 Updates
The Special Event Permit for the Scanley Cup was approved at the October 17 City Council
meeting. The adult hockey tournament is scheduled for Saturday, January 27, from 7 a.m. to
midnight. Promotions have already started.
At the September 7, 2017 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting, Committee members
began to plan for Vinterfest 2018. Ryan Jinks agreed to:
1. Contact Jeni O'Brien to request the donation of her time and talent to provide an
updated Vinterfest poster and banner graphic. (Hawkinson recommended four banners
be purchased and suggested changing the color scheme and eliminating the white
background.)
2. Contact Lynne Moratzka at Gammelgarden (Imoratzk@luthersem.edu) to see of their
interest in organizing events.
3. Contact Jenna Mertes (men namertes@yahoo.com) regarding a Kubb Tournament.
4. Contact Scandia-Marine Lions to confirm a pancake breakfast.
5. Contact Scandia-Marine Lions to see of their interest in organizing a dance.
Vice Chair Gorham has taken the lead on most of these items and will report status updates.
Gorham contacted Mertes who would like to organize another Kubb tournament. Staff
contacted O'Brien and she agreed to update the flyer and banner artwork. O'Brien is
requesting that only finalized updates to the poster be provided to avoid multiple revisions.
Gorham and staff took the lead on the button design contest. The sixth -grade students have the
contest rules and entries are due November 27. Committee members will judge the Vinterfest
button design entries at the December 4 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting.
Scheduled times for events need to be confirmed with event organizers. Here is a schedule for
Vinterfest 2018 based on last year's events. I have highlighted the events that have been
confirmed.
