Re: Taco Daze Dodge Ball Tournament - Confirm Responsibilities
Background:
The Parks and Recreation Committee met on July 7, 2014, to discuss final plans for Taco Daze to
be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014. The Committee has been responsible for coordinating
the dodge ball tournament.
At the June 2, 2014 meeting, the Committee recommended staff advertise and hire dodge ball
referees. Negus reported at the July 7 meeting that one application was received. Committee
members requested Staff re-post the dodge ball referee position.
The following Committee assignments were confirmed:
Rasmussen:
1. Order 40 t-shirts.
2. Provide tag board and zip ties and additional stop watches and whistles.
3. Referee the tournament.
Swanson:
1. Organize dodge ball teams and place in brackets.
Zauner:
1. Sign up registrations and collect registration fees.
Negus:
1. Provide dodge balls, referee vests, stop watches and whistles.
2. Purchase bottled water.
Bildeaux:
1. Referee the tournament.
Issue:
Does the Committee have sufficient referees to hold the annual Taco Daze Dodge Ball
Tournament?
Proposal Details:
To date, no other applications have been received for the dodge ball referee positions. Staff
have interviewed Jacob Fetch and recommend Fetch be hired for the position. Committee
members identified the need for four referees. We have two Committee volunteer referees, a
proposed paid referee, and are in need of one more referee. Staff is suggesting another
Committee member volunteer to referee or cancel the dodge ball tournament.
Fiscal Impact:
There is approximately $366 remaining in the “Events” budget this year. Of the $366, $200 will
be spent on t-shirts, $60 will go towards referee compensation, and $5 will be spent on bottled
water. A balance of $101 remains.
Options:
1) Assign a Committee member to fill the remaining dodge ball referee position.
2) Cancel the Taco Daze Dodge Ball Tournament.
Recommendation:
Option 1.
