STAFF REPORT
Date of Meeting: August 4, 2014
To: Parks and Recreation Committee
From: Judi Negus, Office Assistant
Re: Signage Request - Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails
Background:
On July 2, 2014, City Administrator Handt received an e-mail from Tom Triplett on behalf of the
Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails. Triplett informed Washington County had installed
“Scandia” signs at the entrance to our City on Manning (2 signs), Lofton (1 sign) and Olinda (2
signs). Triplett requested the City consider adding City bike route signs as one of the smaller
signs on each of the five signs. Triplett shared the Friends of Scandia Parks and Trail s believe
the bike route signs would both be a service to City residents and to bicycle tourists to Scandia.
Triplett requested to attend a Parks and Recreation Committee meeting to propose which
particular sign would be on each of the five “Scandia” signs and suggested they might vary per
the bike routes that are closest to each of the signs.
Staff invited Triplett to attend the August 4 meeting and shared the “Scandia Parks, Trails, and
Open Space Signage Guidelines” adopted in May 2013. Staff also requested any additional
information for Committee review prior to the meeting.
Issue:
Should the Parks and Recreation Committee recommend the proposed additional signage on
the “Scandia” signs?
Proposal Details:

proposal.
Fiscal Impact:
Uncertain at this time.
Options:

2) Recommend changes to the proposed signage and then approve.
3) Do not approve signage.
Recommendation:
