8.a) Staff Report-Lilleskogen Butterfly Garden STAFF REPORT Date of Meeting: February 3, 2014 To: Parks and Recreation Committee From: Judi Negus, Office Assistant Re: Lilleskogen Butterfly Garden Background: Janie O’Connor shared a “Monarch Waystations” brochure with the Committee at the December 2, 2013 meeting. (I have included the brochure in the meeting materials.) O’Connor informed the plan for a butterfly garden at Lilleskogen fits perfectly with becoming a certified Monarch Waystation by Monarch Watch. O’Connor felt it would be great publicity if Lilleskogen’s butterfly garden became certified. Issue: Should the Parks and Recreation Committee support monarch conservation by having Lilleskogen butterfly garden certified as an official Monarch Waystation? Proposal Details: Janie O’Connor will be presenting detailed information regarding the need for certification, as well as how to become certified, to the Parks and Recreation Committee for consideration. The presentation is also included in the meeting materials. Options: 1. Recommend Monarch Waystation certification of the Lilleskogen butterfly garden. 2. Do not recommend Monarch Waystation certification of the Lilleskogen butterfly garden. Fiscal Impact: There is no fiscal impact. Recommendations: Recommend option #1.
