Re: Taco Daze
Background:
Taco Daze, Scandia’s annual community festival, will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014.
The theme this year is “Roaring Taco Twenties.” The festival is primarily sponsored by the
Scandia-Marine Lions Club. Traditionally, the Parks and Recreation Committee has been
involved in the Dodgeball Tournament.
Below is a breakdown of past years’ Dodgeball Tournament registrations:

Following the 2013 Dodgeball Tournament:
Rasmussen recommended the Committee compensate referees for future tournaments.
Rasmussen suggested the clarification of dodgeball rules.
Bildeaux agreed to help coordinate the 2014 dodgeball tournament.
Bildeaux recommended adult referees.
Rasmussen recommended two referees on each side of the court.
Issue:
Should the Parks and Recreation Committee do anything different for Taco Daze this year?
Proposal Details:
The updated flyer, rules, and signup form for the Dodgeball Tournament are included in your
meeting materials. The Committee should decide if anything needs to be changed on the flyers
(i.e., times, fee, volunteer or paid referees, etc.).
The Committee also needs to assign duties/roles for executing the Dodgeball Tournament.
Staff will handle the tournament registrations up to September 5th; however, a Committee
member needs to be identified to be responsible for handling of th e funds on the day of the
event.
Are any additional supplies needed for the tournament (i.e., T-shirts, referee vests, dodgeballs,
whistles, stop watches)?
Fiscal Impact:
There is approximately $366 left in the events budget for this year.
Recommendation:
1) Designate Committee member responsibilities for day of the event.
2) Determine which supplies are needed for staff to purchase.
3) Review flyers for any needed changes.
