7.c) Vinterfest ParadeVinterfest Parade People have talked about a parade for Vinterfest. Snow creates problems for a winter parade that we don’t have in Taco Daze. It reduces the safe area for spectators since the sidewalks and surrounding lawns are not present. The T-ball field provides summer parking for parade and spectators. If we didn’t have to have everybody there at once, many of these challenges would be eliminated. Thus the Stand Still parade was invented. The spectators move, the parade doesn’t. No need to come early, the parade isn’t going anywhere. Whalan, MN and Leon, WI are 2 of the closest towns that are having these parades (during the summer). We would close off an area for the parade set up. Parade participants would remove any unnecessary vehicles from the area. They would line up like a traditional parade, but stay where they are. After the parade is set up, the spectators would be let in to walk around the parade. Parade would maybe last for 30 minutes or more depending upon the type of participants that enter. Possible parade sites could be: 1. Parking area below the church. It would start setting up after sledding time. Parade would set up on north and south sides. Spectators would walk in the middle. Community Center parking would be available and wouldn’t interfere with Scanley Cup or other events. 2. Gammelgarden. If we start it after Loppet has time to clear out. 3. School parking lot. Parade and parking space would be available, but it isn’t as close to where the action is. 4. Oak Hill along Lilleskogen. I know we don’t want to shut down roads, but if we have enough participation and need a larger area, it could work. It would also bring people closer to local businesses. Line up would be along the north side of the road. Olinda would be completely open to traffic and we could conceivably have one way driving if someone had to leave the cottages or residences along the way.
