Request to Scandia/Marine Lions for funds
Assuming the area is approximately 2000 Sq. ft. the following items and costs
apply:
Plants: A variety of native plants that serve the needs of both larva and adult
populations of butterflies. Plants/plugs are approximately $1.00 per plant with
some being $1.10 - $1.20. Some wild common milkweed seeds will also be
incorporated. (Landscape Alternatives)

Mulch: Shredded mulch will knit together better than regular mulch and make a
more suitable bedding for plants. (Abrahamsons)

Water Tank/hose: 325 gal tank (Fleet Farm) – on site, will provide a continuous
source of water especially for early emerging plants and to maintain for at least
2 years. Water carried to plants from tank. Other sources of water include
possible pumping or carrying water from wet land – already approved by
Watershed – if needed. Also possible request to City Fire Dept. if needed – and
no other sources available.

Volunteers (25/30) will be asked to bring the following 3 items. Our request for
funds is for those who don’t have the item. Volunteers will also be asked to bring
wheelbarrows to distribute mulch, small pails for dirt when planting and garden
rakes to prepare soil.
Trowels: 10 trowels @ $5.00 ea. to assist with planting and future weed removal.

Buckets/sprinkle cans: 5 buckets to carry water @ $3.00 ea.

Edging: Appropriate edging to add dimension to garden that designates it as a
butterfly garden. (rocks, stones, plastic, wood etc.)
